 Bob the gardener:

  • THEpostWORKS is now well and truly located riverside! Our premises at 122 Quay Street Bulimba back directly onto the Brisbane River. On occasion Bob has been known to disappear. Frantic searches find him checking out his crab pots, hoping for a haul of little beauties. He is also a late blooming gardener and impersonates Farmer Gnomes around the massive Moreton Bay Fig tree which lines the river bank.

Bob proudly models his new gardening outfit:

     Bob re-joins old mates:

Bob has teamed up with long-time friend and colleague TV producer John Schindler. Bob worked with John on a Penguin award winning documentary "Tigers and Snakes" which recounted the sinking of ships in Singapore harbour during a WW2 commando raid by Australian Z force members.  John's new project centres around Australia's worst recorded maritime disaster: an event during WW2 when a Japanese unmarked transport ship the "Montevideo Maru" was sunk by the United States submarine "USS Sturgeon".  When the sub's torpedoes slammed into the vessel over 1200 Australian prisoners of war and detainees were killed. The troops and civilians had been captured by Japanese troops when Rabaul was attacked shortly after the Pearl Harbour raid. The prisoners were en-route to Japan to work as forced slave labour.

Their story forms part of the documentary which will contain interviews (some already in the can) with the only Japanese survivor as well as former interned POWS and nurses. Also already filmed are interviews with POWs who were incredibly rescued from certain death by sailors of the same United States submarine which had torpedoed their unmarked Japanese transport: "Rykuyu Maru" 4 days earlier. This submarine "USS Pampanito" remains as a floating memorial in San Francisco and sailors from that WW2 patrol recount their experiences.  John also intends to film re-enactment sequences of of these real and horrific events.  Acclaimed Director/D.O.P. Richard Marks, with whom Bob and John have worked closely for decades, has come on board to  direct and film the re-enactment sequences.

    It will be compelling viewing.
